RE: Fuel efficency experiment

Sounds to me like you saved enough for almost another weeks worth of camping. And since you were so relaxed and not stressed from the drive I bet you had an even more enjoyable trip!

RE: Opinions on Salem 31QBSS by Forest River

IMHO you need to look at some smaller TT 32ft is just to long for an Expedition. I towed my previous TT (26ft, 5500lbs. loaded) with a 2001 Expedition. While it did a fine job I wouldn't have wanted to pull anything bigger. Good luck, John

New roman shades?

Wife and I have been trying to decide what to do with our old aluminum mini-blinds. We have been thinking of making roman shades to replace the mini-blinds with. Did a search and seems everyone is replacing their roman shades. Has anyone put roman shades in their RV? If so how about some pics! If anyone has any other ideas we would be open to suggestions. Thank, John and Jeanne

RE: Info wanted on Rear Kitchen in TT

Were on our 2nd rear kitchen and third TT. By far the rear kitchen for us is better. Wife didn't like the kids in the TT when she was cooking when we had the mid-kitchen. Haven't had much stuff move except maybe on an extremely rough and bumpy road. We would also consider a front kitchen model before another mid-kitchen.

RE: What is it going to take to tow this camper...

I had just enough power with the Expy and our next TV was going to be an older truck just for pulling the camper and winter diving so I don't want to invest too much money. Opinions needed. I have had my X two years and only put about 5-7K miles on it a year. Only use it to tow or go to Home Depot or Lowes. (An 8ft sheet of plywood will fit in with doors closed.) Look around they can be had very reasonably with the V10. Good luck, John

RE: Help using black tank rinser

Purchase a Water Thief. Blue Water Thief http://i34.tinypic.com/zvpiz9.jpg Green Water Thief http://i38.tinypic.com/24d0ojo.jpg width=200 I carry two of them. One (green one) is for use at a freshwater hydrant. The other (blue one) is for use at dump stations. They press on the hose or bib without any threads and allow you to put on your own hose. They have a graduated inside diameter that fits every situation I have come across. Barney Thanks Barney, thats what I have been looking for.

RE: Help using black tank rinser

If it is a regular hose just carry a spare 1/2 or 5/8 lawn fitting. If it is one of those smnaller rubber hoses I made a smnall one that works. Go to the compressor area of home depot etc. and get a connector that is 3/8 and 1/2 inch at other end. Clamp it on to a piece of hose then keep a spare clamp for clamping to the cut piece of hose. On the 1/2" home piece just put a regular fitting and voila. I made one for the in laws as well and he says he needs it all the time. Where we live they cut them off so the atv guys don't wash their unti. This tends to keep them away. Where we go alot the hose looks like a 1/2 inch. Could you post a pic of what your talking about? The way I have been using the intank rinser is to hook a 50ft garden hose to fresh water supply and stretch it out to rinser. A real pain! Thanks, John

Help using black tank rinser

I was wondering what people do when the hose for rinsing the black tank has no fitting. Went to dump the tanks and found the fitting on the rinse hose had been cut off. Anyone else seen this before? Got any solutions? Thanks, John

RE: Rockwood 2601 Shower Door or curved Shower Rod?

Literally just finished installing a curved shower rod from Lakeside. Install was straight forward and easy, only took about 20 min. Only negative was lack of communication from Lakeside. Checked earlier today and website still said order was in their warehouse ready to be shipped! Took about 8-9 days to get it.

RE: First time owners

Congrats on the new TT. Why do you turn the gas off at all? I never turn my gas tanks off except in the winter. My Dad who has 30 plus years of RVing experience never turns his off except for winter storage. Should I be turning them off?

RE: Adjusting hitch and Dual Cam Sway control

Just returned from our trip. Went to Roaring River State Park, trout fishing! Had a great time. The truck pulled and rode great. Have a steering problem now. Truck seems to wander quite abit. Think I'll take it in to have the front end checked out. Other than that and shredding a TT tire 20 miles from the campground it was an awesome week. Had all five tires replaced at the campground! TT pulled better on the way home I think because we went from a C to a D rated tire. Thanks to all for your replies, John.

RE: Adjusting hitch and Dual Cam Sway control

Thanks for all the replies. Turk2500, I have the old style Dual Cam with newer style spring bars that have the cam built in. It don't believe I have any clearance problems with the 5 link setup. My hitch head is tilted as far back as it will go. Thanks for the link on weighting the TT, I will be going right by a Flying J on the way out of town so I will try and weigh then and report back. Thanks to all again.

Adjusting hitch and Dual Cam Sway control

I am finally getting around to adjusting my hitch and Dual Cam to this TT. After several hours I have two different setups. Tell me which you think would be better. 1. Having 6 working links on the take up brackets and a 1 inch drop on the rear axle and a 1/4 inch drop on the front. 2. Having 5 working links on the take up brackets and a 1/2 inch drop on all four corners. Haven't pulled with it yet but I left it at option 2. I have a 450 mile round trip pull this Thursday so I'll be able to tell how it works then. Thanks in advance, John Also, I have weighed the tonque and it was 1204lbs. I have since found out the propane tanks just about empty so its likely a little more than that now. And I have 1200lb bars.

RE: 2010 Ford F150 PSD Diesel is a go!

Key thing for us here is the towing MPG which IMHO will romp over any smallblack gasser. A 4-6 mpg add to my towing mileage would be huge! I also wouldn't poo poo 18mpg city either. I am sure some tweaks can be made before it get sto market to possibly detune or something to bring the numbers up some more. The power this engine will put out will allow some pretty efficient gearing to be used and still be able to haul quite a bit too. Thanks Keith99Rs, out of all these posts finally one thats positive! I work for Ford at the Kansas City Assembly Plant. Plant is shut down for vacation right now but we finished the 2008's and are ready to run 2009's when we return. Just wish the new motor was ready to go now. As far as the diesel a lot can change between now and next year. There are no firm hp and torque numbers yet! I for one take a wait and see attitude but do get frustrated with all the negative comments on a product that isn't even in production yet. John

RE: Power Jack and Propane tanks

If you have the room, just remove the LP tanks, unbolt mounting plate and move it. Bolt mounting plate back, on replace tanks and you should be good to go.

RE: V10 Excursion first trip results and MPG

Chad, I would like to suggest you get a tranny temp guage. Had a tranny guy years ago tell me if people would change their tranny fluid once a year he would be out of buisness. I change my every year at the end of the camping season. Cheap insurace. My tranny temps run between 180-195. Good luck, John

RE: V10 Excursion first trip results and MPG

Chad, before you spend any money on mod's go to www.ford-trucks.com and look around on the Excursion and V10 forums. The V10 is a pretty efficient motor as is. Love mine! I have added a rear swaybar and the Roadmaster Active Suspension and am very pleased. Watch ebay for the RAS got mine for around $100 shipped to my door. Good luck, John

RE: Question about TT refers

Besides the rebates now being offered, another reason to go with an RV type refer would be resale. I know when we were looking if the fridge had be replaced with a 110 unit we wouldn't even consider the TT.

RE: Filling Fresh Water tanks

Got an idea for a solution to your problem! I know I'm thinking again. I have had this idea for myself for awhile. I have a submersible bilge pump that I bought and never used for my last boat. Why couldn't a guy mount it in the bottom of a five gallon bucket, wire it up with alligator clips for the battery, plumb it with enought flexible tubing to go from pump to fresh water tank and wallha! Pour your water from jug into the bucket and pump it into the tank. What do ya'll think? John
